Urmila Matondkar
Khoobsurat Urmila
Urmila Matondkar’s one of the most talented and best actresses in Bollywood. A popular actress in the nineties she was born on 4 February 1974. Known for her dancing and power packed performances this Mumbai girl started her screen debut as a child in Kalyug in 1980, she then also appeared in Masoom in 1983. Urmila came back to the big screen in the movie Narasimha in 1991.
She rose to stardom with the the 1995 release Rangeela opposite Amir Khan and Jackie Shroff. She became known as the sex symbol of the nineties after the success of this movie. She is one of the very few actresses in Bollywood who has done such diverse roles; from playing a psychopath killer in Kaun to an obsessive lover in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. She has also played a possessed woman in Bhoot as well as an unfortunate village woman in Pinjar.
Some of Urmila’s other successful movies were Judaai, Satya, Ek Hasina Thi, Tehzeeb, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, Bas Ek Pal, Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain, Khoobsurat, Naina and Ek Hasina Thi.
Although not all of Urmila’s movies were box office success she has won a lot of praise and received rave reviews from critics and audiences worldwide. She excelled in any role given to her and was a Director’s dream. Mostly known to work with Ram Gopal Varma and being romantically linked to him, she moved on to do movies with other makers as well but didn’t receive the same reviews for her performances. Although Urmila’s been missing from the big screen she seems unfazed by the effect it’s had on her career. In the mean time she’s left millions of her fans waiting for her to return to Bollywood in meaningful movies.
