Singing Sensation Sunidhi Chauhan
This Gujarati girl has sung over 2000 songs and she is only 26! Lata Mangeshkar called Chauhan "one of the finest young singers." Her family knew they were dealing with a prodigy even at a very young age.
Sunidhi Chauhan began singing from the age of four. She was talented and confident. She was noticed on the show Meri Aawaz Suno where she won an offer to record an album with HMV. Though the album was not successful, she did get a few offers to sing in movies. But it was not until Sonu Niigaam suggested her to Sandeep Chowta that “Ruki Ruki Si Zindag" happened. This song from Ram Gopal Varma’s Mast became a sensational hit and brought her a number of offers to work with the best musicians in the film industry. She has worked with literally every music director there is today!
Versatility is her strength! Her strong and intense voice makes her “genre-defying”! She is perhaps the only Bollywood female singer who can sing just about any genre, including rock, pop, classical, folk and even semi-classical. She won the R. D. Burman Award for Most Promising Newcomer and numerous awards for Best Playback Singer.
Chauhan got married to music director and choreographer Bobby Khan at the age of eighteen, which resulted in her family disowning her. The relationship went fine initially but a year later they grew apart ended the marriage. She managed to reconcile with her family afterwards.
She never received any sort of formal music training so she has started taking Indian classical music lessons. She credits her success to her family and Sonu Nigam. Drawing her inspirations from Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson, her ambition is to achieve global fame. By the way things are going; this shouldn’t take too long to happen!
