Soulful Sonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is one of the most highly acclaimed Indian playback singers. From the age of three he knew that his destiny was to sing, and that’s no surprise as he comes from a family of singers. He used to accompany his father on many performances at weddings and parties. At the age of 19 he came to Mumbai to start his singing career.
The initial years proved to be a struggle but not in vain. Gulshan Kumar played a key role in identifying Sonu’s talent. He sang for several radio commercials before he appeared on the TV show Sa Re Ga Ma which he later started hosting from May 1995. The song “Accha Sila Diya" from the album Bewafa Sanam (1995) established his status as a play back singer and the song “Sandese Aate Hain," from Border (1997) took his fame to new heights. Till 1997 he had been singing in the style of Mohammad Rafi but with songs like "Yeh Dil Deewana" in Pardes, he started creating his own unique style of singing.
Besides just doing playback singing in movies, Sonu has released a number of chart topping pop albums, both in Hindi and in Punjabi and several other devotional albums! Sonu Nigam concerts are sold out throughout the world. This family man also believes in giving back to the society; he has worked on many charity works for Cancer organizations, Leprosy organizations and Women’s welfare organizations to name a few.
He has sung over thousands of songs in Hindi and numerous other languages like English, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Nepali, etc… He has won roughly around 39 various awards including Best Male Playback Singer, Best Pop Album and MTV Style Awards. With a divine voice, charming looks and wonderful personality, it’s no wonder that Sonu Nigam is a modern legend!
