Shekhar Kapoor is a man we can all be proud of. He is an Indian film director and producer, who has gained international recognition. Being the son of a doctor and journalist, his father never wanted him to get into the entertainment industry like his uncles, Vijay Anand and Dev Anand. To please his family, he became a Chartered Accountant. He moved to Great Britain and worked as an accountant and management consultant.
Shekher acted in a few older Bollywood movies and TV serials but to his dismay, his acting career never launched. Things changed in 1983, when he directed his first movie, Masoom; it won four FilmFare Awards. Mr. India, his science fiction superhero film, became the biggest movie of 1987. To this day, it remains a cult classic. His Bandit Queen, based on the life of Phoolan Devi, was a critically acclaimed film, which won several awards. His career took a drastic turn 1998 with Elizabeth, a movies about the fictitious events of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The movie won an Academy Award. Its sequel, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, was another success. Both the movies combined were nominated for nine Academy Awards. The Four Feathers and New York, I Love You are two other international works of his.
He had provided the voice of Mahatma Gandhi in the Audio book titled The Story of My Experiments with Truth. Shekhar also co-founded Virgin Comics along with Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin Group, author Deepak Chopra, and three other entrepreneurs. He won the prestigious Padmashree Awards in 2000 in the field of Arts. Shekhar Kapoor is a visionary who followed his heart and pursued his passion. Today, he has broken all the boundaries. He is a globally known director known for his eye for detail and versatility.
