Shakti
Shakti directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by Mushir Alam and Mohammad Riaz released in 1982, is regarded as one of the best movies in Indian Cinema. The movie gained recognition for bringing together two mega stars Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.
The multi star cast consists of Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Raakhe Gulzar, Smita Patil, Anil Kapoor, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Amrish Puri. It was written by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. The movie had songs by legendary composer R.D. Burman.
The story is about an honest cop, Ashwini Kumar (Dilip) who tells his grandson (Anil) about his son Vijay (Amitabh) who was kidnapped in his childhood by a notorious gangster JK Verma (Amrish). JK Verma wants his accomplices who were captured by Ashwini to be released in return he’ll release Vijay otherwise he’ll him. Vijay’s mother (Raakhee) pleads with Ashwini to release the criminals so they can have their son back. But Ashwini refuses it as his duty means more to him and he can’t go against his principles.
Vijay runs away from JK Verma’s gang with the help of his rival and mobster K.D. Narang (Kulbhushan). Since he did not get any support from his father when he needed it the most Vijay and Ashwini’s relationship gets strained. Vijay goes and lives with a local girl Roma (Smita) in her rented room instead of living with his parents. They marry without the consent of his parents.
Vijay then starts working with K.D. Narang (Kulbhushan) by helping him with his illegal dealings. He helps Narang as a favor for his help in his childhood and then works as his bodyguard. Soon there’s a stand off between JK Verma and Narang. Vijay’s mother gets killed in the process. He then kills JK verma and Ashwini kills his only son Vijay.
