Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s Shaan
Shantanu Mukherjee aka Shaan is a Bengali playback singer in Bollywood. He is a self-taught musician, who has received no formal training. But music was in his family; his grandfather a lyricist, his father a music director and his brother a singer! He seemed to have adopted the qualities of all three men!
This vocalist and bass player began his career by singing ad jingles, which he gave up for a short period. He returned to the music scene later by singing remixes and cover versions. In 2000, he released his album Tanha Dil for which he won the MTV Asia Music Award for best solo album. Three years later he came out with Aksar, which again was a huge success. It featured international stars such as Blue, Mel C and Samira Said. For both the albums; he composed and wrote the lyrics for his songs.
He has won Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for songs like "Chand Sifarish" from Fanaa and "Jab se Tere Naina" from Saawariya. He also won the Best TV Music Director, for creating the music of the Zee TV show, Lipstick.
Besides singings, Shaan hosts talent shows like Star Voice of India 2. He formerly hosted of the popular show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as well. You will also find him as one of the judges on "Music Ka Maha Muqabla". Shaan has also acted in the movie, Daman, starring Raveena Tandon and has made appearances in movies, Zameen and Hungama for his songs.
Shaan married fight airhostess Radhika and they have two sons, Soham and Shubh. He plans to release an album remaking his father’s compositions with his sister in the future. This father, husband, musician and TV host seems to have jammed packed life, but he is enjoying every moment of it!
