Successful lyricist Sameer

Though his father, Anjaan was a well-known lyricist, he was against his son choosing the risky world of films. However, Sameer has managed very well on his known. He has created many magical moments with his lyrics in Bollywood. He attained a Masters in Commerce before he followed his dreams.

Some of the directors who met him because of his father’s name thought that he was just taking a chance at writing without being really serious. Even if they liked his lyrics, often the credit went to his father. He had to go through his share of toil and hardship to achieve his position. Starting at the bottom, he had to work his way up the ladder. The first song he wrote was for the film Bekhabar. With the movie Dil, Sameer became the hottest new lyricist on the block and he occupied centre stage for his melodious words. The movie Aashiqui created the biggest impact.

Sameer initially used to work only for two composers: Anand Milind and Nadeem-Shravan. In the next ten years, he wrote over 3500 songs. He worked with the maximum number of music directors and whatever his detractors said; he proved his versatility, working in two languages, Hindi and Bhojpuri. Anu Malik helped him get films like Soldier, Hum Aap ke Dil Mein Rahte Hain and Sooryavansham. Movies that he worked on like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Ghulam and Pyar To Hona Hi Tha were huge hits.

Sameer, who has written most of the songs for the No 1 series starring Govinda has always been accused of the vulgarity prevalent in the Indian music scene. To this, he proudly stated that he caters to different standards and not only to the elite. The outputs of his lyrics are dictated by the needs of the films.
