The Dhoom Factor… Pritam Chakraborty
This Bengali is a well-known music director and composer. Pritam Chakraborty, better known as Pritam is mastermind behind the soundtrack of films like Race, Garam Masala, Singh Is Kinng and Billu Barber. His father used to run a music school and he was Pritam’s first teacher. He was part of a band called “Jotugriher Pakhi” during college and later became a part of the band “Chandrabindoo”. He is a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India.
He started his career by composing jingles. Pritam, got his big break as one of the composers for the film Tere Liye; the other composer being Chandrajeet Ganguly, also known as Jeet. Though the movie did not due too well at the box office, the music was well received. Jeet-Pritam duo also worked together for Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai under Yashraj Films. All the songs from that movie were chartbusters, and the duo had hit the big time. After Pritam decided to go solo, he had worked on a series of unsuccessful movies like Fun2shh – Dudes In The 10th Century and Agnipankh. He grabbed the spotlight again in 2004 with Dhoom, which was a runaway success. Chocolate, Garam Masala, Gangster and Dhoom 2 followed to heighten his glory. Life in a Metro, Singh Is King, Kismat Konnection, Love Aaj Kal, Golmaal Returns, Tum Mile, Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, and De Dana Dan are some of his recent works. He recently formed a band named Metro. He has sung for some of his movies too.
Pritam has been accused of plagiarism several times; he has supposedly copies various Asian artists for his chartbuster hits. Whatever the accusations might be, there is no doubt that he is bowl of talent who constantly gives us head bopping, hips rocking music.
