Prasoon Joshi the Advertiser cum Lyricist

Prasoon Joshi is the brilliance behind the lyrics of movies like Hum Tum, Black, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Ghajini, London Dreams and Delhi 6. He is not only a lyricist but also a screenwriter and an internationally acclaimed Indian advertising professional. His mother used to perform for All India Radio for over three decades.

At the age of seventeen, he published his first book, Main aur Woh, which was inspired by Frederich Nietzsche’s Thus Spake Zarathustra. Later he published two more books. After his Masters in Physics, he did his MBA from Institute of Management Technology; that’s where he realized that he has a flare for advertisement. He worked with the reputed advertising firm, Ogilvy & Mather for over ten years. He then joined McCann-Erickson where in 2006 he was promoted to Executive Chairman for McCann World group India and Regional Creative Director Asia Pacific. He created many advertisements for NDTV India, Saffola, LG, CNN IBN, Asian paints, Cadbury, Coca Cola and Happydent. He has won over 200 advertising awards. He has rightfully earned the title of "the ad Guru of India".

He made his debut as film lyricist with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lajja, which soon led to Yash Chopra’s Hum Tum and a string of popular Bollywood films; Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Black, Hum Tum and Delhi 6. With the movie, Rang De Basanti, he also became a dialogue writer in 2006. He has won several awards for his lyrics, including the National Film Award for his lyrics in Taare Zameen Par. His poetic outburst "Iss baar nahin" in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 gave a voice to the angst of millions of Indians. Joshi not only entertains us with his Bollywood lyrics but also enlightens us through the world of advertisement and awareness.
