Kabhi Kabhie
Kabhi Kabhie directed and produced by Yash Chopra released in 1976. It is regarded as one of the best romantic classics in Indian cinema. The blockbuster movie became the eighth highest grossing of the year at the Indian box office grossing in Rs. 40, 000, 000.
The multi star cast consists of Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Raakhee Gulzar, Neetu Singh, Simi Garewal, Parikshat Sahni, Iftekhar and Deven Verma. It was written by Pamela Chopra and Sagar Sarhadi. The movie had hit songs by Khayyam some of which were “kabhi kabhie”, “tere chehre se”, “main har ek pal ka shayar hoon”.
The movie’s story is about poet Amit Malhotra (Amitabh) and Pooja (Raakhee) who meet during a function held at Pooja’s college when he comes to recite one of his poems. Pooja, already a fan of his from before quickly falls in love with him and vice versa.
Pooja’s parents arrange a match for her with architect Vijay Khanna (Shashi) who she marries and has a son named Vikram (Rishi) with. Amit joins his family business and marries Anjali (Waheeda) who was a widow and had a daughter Pinky (Neetu) from that marriage who is adopted by Dr. and Mrs. R. P. Kapoor. Amit and Anjali have a biological daughter named Sweetie.
The movie then shows the next generation’s romance which is between Vicky and Pinky. She finds out though that she is adopted. She tracks down Anjali. Anjali loves her but keeps her relationship a secret in order to prevent a crack in her marriage. Sweetie gets interested in Vicky but at the end Pinky and Vicky end up together. Amit and Pooja’s affair is brought out in the open but they have understanding spouses and realize that it is the present which is more important.
