Bombay Viking’s Neeraj Shridhar
Neeraj Shridhar, from the popular band Bombay Vikings, is known for his distinguishing voice and upbeat melodies. The band formed in Sweden in 1994 with three members and today, only Neeraj remains. Their clever combination of Bollywood style and European experimentation had made them a sensation both in India as well as overseas among the Indian music listeners.
In addition to singing, he is excellent with the guitar. As if these weren’t enough, he is also into composing and writing songs ranging from pop rock, jazz, hip-hop, soul and reggae.Though Neeraj grew up in Sweden, he used to listen to a lot of Hindi music with his parents. Songs like Oh Mere Sona Re, Mere Sapno Ki Rani, and Mere Samne Wale Khidki Mein, were the tunes that he kept humming growing up, but he always found himself singing made up English lyrics to fit these classic tunes. As a result, super hit songs like Kya Surat Hai happened. Many music companies initially turned down his songs saying that they wouldn’t sell. But look where he is today! His album Kya Surat Hai remained on the top of all chartbusters for almost eleven months.
From remixes and re-creations, he is now an in-demand play back singer. His albums have always been popular with the youth. His simple lyrics are those that anyone can relate to. This, combined with trendy beats and extraordinary enthusiasm, there is no surprise why he is one of the most sought after singers in Bollywood today. His songs like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Hey Baby will always be party favorites.
Gone are the days where you had to sing every note right. A fresh voice with an attitude is what the crowd wants. "Singing loose" is the in-thing now, and singers like Neeraj Shridhar are doing just that!
