Two of a kind Nadeem-Shravan
Together these musical masterminds composed songs for over 125 movies in Bollywood. Nadeem Akhtar Saifi and Shravan Rathod are noted Bollywood music directors. They had met each other at function over 37 years ago, and their friendship and association continues even to this day. They had worked together for songs in the Bhojpuri film; Dangal. Their first Hindi movie project was Maine Jeena Seekh Liya in 1981.
They had worked on several B grade films till until they got their big break with the film Aashiqui. Gulshan Kumar brought them to lime light with this movie. All the songs in the film were major hits. Because of Aashiqui, Naddem, Shravan and Kumar Sanu became famous over night. Saajan, Raja Hindustani, Pardes, Dhadkan, Judaai, Kasoor, Dil Hai Tumhaara, Dil Ka Rishta and Raaz were other popular movies they had composed. Nadeem-Shravan prefers to stick to lyricist Sameer, male singers Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan and female singer Alka Yagnik for most of their works.
Nadeem was accused of murdering his mentor, Gulshan Kumar in 1997. In mid 2002, Nadeem Saifi was finally acquitted and cleared off charges, as they were not able to prove the charges against him. After a short break, the duo came back with songs for movies like Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa, Ek Rishta: The Bond of Love, Kasoor, Andaaz and Raaz. Though during the later part of their careers, Nadeem worked from UK and Sharvan from India, they still continued to make music magic on screen. The movies Aashiqui, Saajan, Deewana and Raja Hindustani won them the Filmfare awards for Best Music Director.
Their trademark Jhankaar – Conga – Electronic drum fusion beats made them distinct from the rest. Though they split in 2005, they are making their come back with three new movies in the near future.
