Prince of the Punjabi Pop: Mika Singh
Amrik Singh, better known as Mika, is known for his “masti” songs such as “Ganpat” and “Dil mein baji guitar”. Being the brother of famous Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi never caused him to fall under his brother’s shadow. Mika has always kept his unique identity whether it was his looks, voice or choice of songs.
Some people know from a very young age what they want to do. Mika was certainly one amongst them! At a very early age he mastered various musical instruments like the tabla, harmonium and guitar, not to mention being trained in classical music. From being a kirtan singer to a bhangra-pop-rap artist; he has come a long way! Having released several albums to his credit, he is now going to star in a new Hindi film titled “Mitti” for which he has also composed the music too.
In June 2006, all spotlights were on him for forcibly kissing his guest, Rakhi Sawant, at his birthday party. Things got worse when Mika allegedly beat up the person who accompanied Rakhi when he tried to protest. Rakhi filed a case against Mika for molestation and she approached the National Commission for Women with a complaint of sexual assault against Mika.
This Prince of the Punjabi Pop knows exactly what sets him apart from the rest. He is after all one who started “singing with an attitude” in Bollywood! He finds no reason for modesty and declares himself as the best in the business. He likes to consider himself as a trendsetter in Bollywood for his flamboyant style and unique nasal voice. His confidence does not allow him to be bothered if people think him to be cocky. He prefers to promote Punjabi culture and stick to the Punjabi genre. After all, Singh is King!
