Come March 19, 2010 and we see the release of the Producer turned Ekta Kapoor’s much controversial, over hyped and eagerly awaited movie, Love Sex aur Dhokha aka LSD. Analogous to its name, the movie appears promising to provide a good blend of all three stimulations, Love, Sex and Dhokha. Directed by the unconventional Dibakar Banerjee (of the Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and Khosla ka Ghosla fame) the movie ensures complete assault on privacy and pervasiveness of voyeurism in the current era. The movie is bizarre and will be as much a shock to the current generation who haven’t been exposed to such serious assault in the past several decades of Hindi Cinema. Completely shot with a digital camera, the experimental movie exposes the harsh reality that there is no seclusion in today’s times of hidden cameras, mobile cameras and MMS.
The title of the movie came under severe criticism by the sensor board but Dibakar stood by his grounds. The movie is a blend of three stories interlinked and weaving through each other.
In the first story, a final year student from a second rated film institute gears up for his diploma film in immaculate crudeness picturing the themes of Bollywood. In the interim he falls in love with the heroine, Shruti. What happens then?
In the second story of the movie, Prabhat, a journalist has all misfortunes in life. A failed marriage, a soon to fired from job, he attempts three unsuccessful suicides. In this journey he meets Naina, who is also trying to end her life as she has been ditched by India’s reigning Hip hop star who promised her a music video if she slept with him. While Naina makes for her promise, the video is given to a Russian Blonde. Prabhat and Naina fall for each other and plan a sting operation on the Hip hop star, Loki who will be captured on Camera trying to buy demo of his imprudence.
In the third story, Aadarsh is a smart, prompt, confident, tech savvy security camera agency executive. By virtue of the skills acquired from his job, he is always floating with wacky scam ideas to get rich. In pursuit of this goal, he plans creating a porn clip by installing security cameras in the departmental store. He starts making advances to Rashmi, an average looking dark girl completely disinterested in him. One day a shootout happens in the store and Rashmi takes charge, bravely saves a life, that’s when Prabhat sees a woman in her.
Love Sex aur Dhokha is an atypical and contemporary movie. How the three stories intertwine and does the experiment of the master mind Dibakar succeed, we all need to stay hooked!
