Kunal Ganjawala
The rare voice of Kunal Ganjawala
The song “Bheegey Hont” from Muder got him famous across the country. Kunal Ganjawala entered the music scene through the show Sa Re Ga Ma in which he was a participant. His song in Murder won him several awards, including a Filmfare-Best Male Playback Singer award in 2005. He sang a few songs for his cousin; Sajnay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariay. His dedication to his work is evident from the movie Aao Wish Kare. It was reported that Ganjawala had to sing in a husky tone and to achieve this; he ate and drank everything cold to catch a cold and sore throat. When he got the cold, he went to the studio and started recording.
His "Channa Ve Ghar aa jaa" from a Punjabi Album "Channa Ve" by DJ Anit was an astounding hit. His songs from the Saathiya, Khakee, Lakshya, Naach, Dhoom, and Saaya were also very popular. His songs "Kaal Dhamaal" and "Tauba Tauba" from Kaal were other dance hits worth mentioning. He entered the Telugu industry with the chartbuster “Jagadame” from Pokiri, which was the original Telugu version of the Hindi film Wanted.
He does not believe in participating in reality shows. He, being a reputed and established singer, feels that he has already won the rights to do what he does and that he needs no further judgment from the public. He is married to singer Gayatri Iyer-Ganjawala with whom he has done quite a lot of playback singing.
His rough yet pleasant voice gives him an edge over the other singers in the industry. His voice is sensuous enough for songs like "Bheegey Hont", delicate enough for “Masha Allah” and peppy for songs like “Salaam Namaste” and “Dil Na Diya”. Kunal Ganjawala has a voice that is adaptable to any song or situation.
