The story of much awaited movie Dhobi Ghaat from Aamir Khan’s home production is finally out now…The world premier of the movie at the Toronto International Film festival in September last year received a thunderous response from people and critics worldwide…The story revolves around the lives of 4 characters Arun (Aamir Khan), Shai (Monica Dogra) , Munna (Prateik Babbar) and Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra) living in the city of dreams - Mumbai….
Arun is a contemporary painter and a loner as a matter of fact…he meets Shai and they both have a moment of weakness which either of them cannot explain and this leads them to move apart along their own separate paths hoping they would never meet again in life…however destiny has planned something else for both of them…Yasmin is a shy girl from UttarPradesh who seeks to find some familiar faces and friends whom she can trust in this new city…Munna plays the part of a dhobi and has an introvert and a self conscious personality….This simpleton aspires to be an actor and meets Shai while delivering clothes to her house….Munna gets to know that Shai has a knack for photography and manages to convince her to shoot a portfolio for him…In return he promises to show Shai Mumbai city in all its reality…Munna eventually falls in love with her…
Even this movie has not remained aloof from controversies….some people tried to protest against the name of the movie as it referred to the washermen community (dhobis) and even filed a court case against Aamir…doesn’t it ring bells…?? sure it does…Shahrukh had to face the same problems during his movie Billu Barber…. however….the court rejected the case as a petty matter and even fined the person filing the case with 25K…its high time some people should learn a lesson from this incidence ….
Entire cast has performed brilliantly but Prateik Babbar is definitely something to watch out for in the movie….Raj Babbar and Smita Patil clearly have an effect on the natural acting skills of this guy….Maybe thats the reason why Prateik Babbar was never overshadowed by the lead actor of Jaane tu ya jaanne na and was praised for his role in the movie…His charismatic performance in Dhobi Ghaat is surely gonna leave an impression on everyone’s mind….It is not too far that he proves to be a threat to Ranbir and Imraan…so guys , just a word of advice for you… be careful and do not underestimate this boy next door !!!
