Chak De India directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya and Yash Chopra released in 2007, is regarded as one of the best movies in Indian Cinema. The movie earned around Rs.919, 700,000. It is said that the story of this movie was very similar to ex Chief National Coach Maharaj Krishan Kaushik as well as Mir Ranjan Negi and his hardships to win the Indian Women’s hockey team at the Commonwealth games.

The multi star cast consists of Shahrukh Khan, Vidya Malvade, Sagarika Ghatge, Chitrashi Rawat, Shilpa Shukla, Tanya Abrol, Anaitha Nair, Shubhi Mehta, Seema Azmi, Nisha Nair, Arya Menon, Sandia Furtado, Arya Menon, Masochon V. Zimik, Kimi Laldawla, Raynia Mascerhanas and Vivan Bhatena. It was written by Jaideep Sahni. The movie had songs by Salim and Sulaiman Merchant like “chak de”, “maula mere” and “sattar minute”.

The story is about Kabir Khan (Shahrukh) a hockey player who loses when he plays a match against Pakistan and misses a penalty stroke. He gets humiliated and leaves his childhood town as he’s named a traitor. He comes back seven years later as a coach for the Indian Women’s Hockey team for the world cup. The hockey federation shows apprehension, as the women’s hockey team hasn’t won any matches.

Kabir coaches sixteen girls from various parts of India. Some of these girls are experienced in the game and some are talented beginners. He instills in them values like togetherness, pride, team spirit and putting the country above all differences. There are some initial conflicts amongst the girls with their egos at a clash. The Women’s team slowly wins matches and improves their skills with the guidance of Kabir and reaches the finals. India wins the World Cup and they get the welcome of heroes. Kabir’s dignity is restored.
