Bumm Bumm Bole Review

‘Bumm Bumm Bole’ is a children’s film adapted from the 1997 Academy Award nominated film for best foreign language – ‘Children of Heaven’. This was an Iranian movie directed by Majid Majidi and in India; the remake has been directed by Priyadarshan.

The movie stars the child super star Darsheel Safary who had earlier won hearts with ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and the little darling of ‘Aapki Antara’ on Zee TV – Ziyah Vastani. The movie tells the story of a brother sister duo who come from a family of very limited means. The father, Khogiram (Atul Kulkarni) has to work real hard to make both ends meet. He along with his wife (Rituparna Sengupta) raises their two children in a terror stricken city. The father still manages to send them to a respectable school as he wants to give his children a good education, something that he was denied in his childhood. The children though are fully aware of their humble conditions. They know that their parents cannot afford to buy them new uniforms and shoes all the time. Poor Pinu (Darsheel) feels very guilty when he accidentally misplaces Rimzim’s (Ziyah) school shoes. The story revolves around how he makes up for this folly of his.

The story is simple and uncomplicated very much like the children in the film. This is the strength and goodness of the film. Priyadarshan has marketed the film well and ensured it released during the summer holidays of schools. There is a fair amount of commercialization in the movie especially at the end when a branded energy drink and a shoe company are unnecessarily endorsed and the film seems to lose its innocence.

The performances of the two child artistes are amazing! Atul Kulkarni and Rituparna Sengupta do well as the doting parents. The movie is a must watch for children with families J
