Incomparable Anu Malik

Anu Malik is a popular Hindi film music director. He is the son veteran music composer Sardar Malik. He learnt music from Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma. He has worked on several films, many of which went unrecognized. It was not until 1993 that he gained popularity with movies like Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Ayee, Jaanam, Sir, and Baazigar.

His work in Baazigar won him a FilmFare Award. Movies like Aks, Fiza, Filhal, Mujhe Kuch Kehena, Jaan-e-man and Umrao Jaan displayed his versatility. Alisha Chinai and Anu Malik have worked together for many successful chartbusters like "Sexy Sexy", "Ruk Ruk Ruk" and “Ishq Di Gali”. He gave Sonu Nigam his big break with the song "Ke Ghar Kab Aaoge" in the film Border in 1997, which put the singer in the limelight and earned him several award nominations. "Main Hoon Na" and "Tumse milke" are two other Anu Malik songs that won Nigam several awards. Though Malik is not a mainstream singer, he does a few playback singing for his movies. “Ek Garam Chaye ki Pyali", "Gori Gori", "Meri Jane Jigar" and "Oonchi hai building” are very popular songs sung by the music director.

He is one of the few Indian film composers with international projects to thier credit. His song "Chamma Chamma" from the movie China Gate was used in the Hollywood movie Moulin Rouge and “Chunari Chunari" from Biwi No.1 was used in Monsoon Wedding. He has also worked on the film Bride and Prejudice. In 2006 movie ‘Umrao Jan’, Anu Malik launched his daughter Anmol Malik as a singer in the song ‘Bitiya Na Kijo’. He has directed music for over 200 Bollywood films. This National Award winning music director is known for his fun, upbeat songs which often have a hint of modern day western music style.
