The Khiladi of Indian Cinema

Akshay Kumar’s known as ‘The Khiladi’ of Bollywood. He’s one of the original action heros of Indian cinema and is an actor as well as T.V. Host. The Amristar, 9 September 1967, born Punjabi’s real name is Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. His father was a government worker. Akshay left for Mumbai and then went to study marital arts in Bangkok where he also worked as a chef.

A Khalsa College graduate, even as a child he was always keen on playing sports. Upon his return to India, Akshay started teaching martial arts when a student of his told him that he should start modeling. He finally chose the modeling career as it gave him easy and quick money.

A few months after modeling he made his debut in 1991 in Saugandh. His intial career consisted of box office duds but his 1992 thriller Khiladi gave him his first stint with success. Some of his successful films were Dancer, Deedar, Jai Kishen, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Mohra, Yeh Dillagi, Suhaag, Maidan-E-Jung, Tu Chor Main Sipahi, Sapoot, Lahoo Ke Do Rang, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Dil To Pagal Hai, Jaanwar, Hera Pheri, Dhadkhan, Ajnabee, Aankhen, Awaara Paagal Deewana, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Namastey London, Hey Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Singh is Kinng and Kambakkht Ishq.

Akshay was formerly known as the flirt of Bollywood with link ups with actresses Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty until he found marital bliss with actress Twinkle Khanna who he has a son named Aarav with. Despite his age, Akshay shows no signs of slowing down and still indulges in daring stunts. He’s the only non-Khan that can guarantee a hit movie. Originally touted as the underdog for Bollywood he has finally proved his mettle.
